Miguel Salgueiro, Partner and CBO of Nextbitt, distinguished at the 2nd edition of the Forbes Green ESG Awards for the impact of technology on decarbonization and corporate sustainability

Nextbitt won the Geek for Good Award at the 2nd edition of the Forbes Green ESG Awards 2026, whose ceremony brought together business leaders, experts and leading organizations at an event dedicated to sustainability, innovation and impact.

The award was given to Miguel Salgueiro, Partner and Chief Business Officer at Nextbitt, and recognizes the use of technology to generate a positive impact on society and the environment - a recognition that validates the company's vision of transforming physical asset management into a strategic lever for sustainability.

Technology at the service of decarbonization

The Geek for Goodcategory celebrates companies and professionals who apply advanced technological solutions to solve environmental and social challenges. Nextbitt was awarded for its digital physical asset management platform, which integrates Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Internet of Things (IoT) and Environmental Management System (EMS) into a single ecosystem, allowing organizations to monitor energy consumption, water and CO₂ emissions in real time and make data-based decisions to reduce their environmental footprint.

"This award is more than a trophy; it's recognition that technology is the most powerful tool we have to tackle today's environmental challenges. Being a 'Geek for Good' means applying data, intelligence and software to turn sustainability goals into concrete, measurable results," said Miguel Salgueiro.

"The future of asset and facilities management is inevitably sustainable, and it is being built with data and artificial intelligence. This recognition reinforces our mission to lead the digital transformation, empowering companies to measure, predict and reduce their environmental impact with rigor, scale and intelligence. We thank the jury and especially the Nextbitt team, whose talent and ambition make it possible to accelerate this shift towards a more efficient and sustainable world."

Measurable impact on leading organizations

With extensive experience in digitizing physical assets, Nextbitt has been helping some of the largest organizations turn operational efficiency into sustainable results. The platform is now used by leading companies and institutions, including Akzonovel, EDP, Galp, TAP, BPI, Vodafone PT and ES, CUF, CTT, Sonae, Vinci Airports and Auchan, which report consistent gains in energy efficiency, resource optimization and compliance with regulatory requirements, such as the European CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).

In multiple projects, customers who have adopted Nextbitt have achieved typical reductions of between 5% and 10% in energy and water consumption in building and infrastructure portfolios, with a direct impact on the reduction of CO₂ emissions and operating costs.

By connecting the "engine room", where physical assets generate data, to the "boardroom", where strategic decisions are made and investors and regulators are responded to, Nextbitt differentiates itself from solutions focused exclusively on reporting or the financial dimension, positioning itself as a platform that transforms operational data into actionable intelligence for sustainability. Real-time, auditable data!

Recognition in a competitive environment

In this award, which received more than 100 applications, the selection of winners was based on strict criteria, including the environmental impact of the initiatives, transparency and governance practices, the existence of measurable results and the scalability potential of the solutions presented. In some categories, factors such as the involvement of different stakeholders were also taken into account, reinforcing the collaborative dimension of the distinguished projects.

Portugal's leading sustainability event

The Forbes Green ESG Awards 2026, promoted by Forbes Portugal in partnership with BCSD Portugal, distinguished 10 winners in categories ranging from Smart Cities (won by Cascais City Council), Storyteller (Andreas Noe, founder of The Trash Traveler), Future Generation (João Maria Botelho), Green Woman (Bárbara Miranda Dinis Costa Pinto, Chief Sustainability Officer at CGD), to Sustainable CEO (Fernando Leite, CEO of LIPOR) and Sustainable Finance (Ageas Foundation).

A decade of innovation and growth

In 2025, Nextbitt celebrated 10 years of activity, a journey marked by sustained growth, distinctions as Microsoft Partner of the Year (ISV and IP Co-Sell), and an investment of 9 million euros dedicated to international expansion and the development of advanced carbon monitoring and artificial intelligence features applied to sustainability .

With a consolidated presence in Portugal and Spain, Nextbitt is now a European benchmark in sustainable asset management, challenging global players such as SAP, IBM Maximo and Hexagon, and demonstrating that it is possible to scale a software business with a real and measurable environmental impact.
